It is a narrow role, and we have tried to be very good at it rather than passably good at a dozen things.
Why the Company Was Set Up This Way
Most supply companies describe their origins as a moment of inspiration. Ours was closer to a moment of irritation.
Anyone who has spent time ordering research compounds knows the pattern. You place an order with a supplier whose website says all the right things. The vials arrive. The label looks fine. There is a certificate in the box, or perhaps there is not, and when there is one it is undated, unsigned, or clearly a template that has been reused across every batch the supplier has ever sold. You run your assay. The results are strange. You run it again. Still strange. And then you spend two weeks working out whether the anomaly is in your protocol, your equipment, your technique, or the vial you paid for.
That last possibility is the one that costs the most, because by the time you have ruled everything else out, the time is gone. Reagents have been consumed. A postgraduate student has lost a fortnight of their life. And the answer, more often than it should be, is that the material was never what the label said it was.
Peptide Works exists because that problem is solvable and too few suppliers were bothering to solve it. Not through some proprietary innovation, and not through a clever piece of technology. That reads like a mission statement, so let us translate it into what it means on an ordinary Tuesday.
It means that when a batch of a compound comes in, it does not go straight onto the shelf. It goes to an independent laboratory for testing, and it stays out of circulation until the results come back and someone here has read them.
It means that when the results come back and a batch falls short of the standard we publish, that batch does not get quietly sold at a discount or blended into stock. It does not get sold at all.
It means that when a researcher emails us at an inconvenient hour with a question about solubility, storage temperature, or what exactly is on the certificate of analysis, they get an answer from a person who has read the certificate, not a copy-pasted paragraph from a support macro.
It means that when a shipment is delayed in customs, we tell the customer it is delayed in customs, rather than sending a cheerful automated message about how their order is on its way.
A mission statement is only worth the operational decisions behind it. Ours is meant to be a description of behaviour, not an aspiration.
The Supplier We Are Trying to Be
Our vision for Peptide Works is straightforward. We want to be the supplier that researchers reach for without thinking about it, because the results are repeatable.
Trust in a supply relationship is a strange thing. It cannot be claimed, and it cannot be manufactured with marketing. It accumulates slowly and quietly, batch after batch, order after order, until one day a researcher stops running the extra verification steps they used to run on incoming material because they no longer expect to find a problem. That moment, when a customer stops checking up on us, is the only meaningful measure of whether we have done our job.
It is also the easiest thing in the world to destroy. One bad batch that slips through, one certificate that turns out to be decorative rather than real, one shipment that arrives warm because nobody thought about the cold chain in July, and the accumulation of years is gone. We know this. It is why the quality process at Peptide Works is deliberately unexciting and deliberately inflexible.
How We Verify Quality and Purity
This is the part of the page that matters most, so we will spend the most time on it.
The Purity Standard We Hold
Peptide Works guarantees a minimum purity of 99% or higher across our range, with a standard of 98% or higher on structurally complex peptides.
That second figure deserves an explanation, because a supplier who claims a single flat purity number across every compound in their catalogue is either not testing carefully or not telling you the whole truth.
Peptides are built by chaining amino acids together in a specified sequence. The longer the chain, the more coupling steps are required, and every coupling step is an opportunity for something to go slightly wrong. A residue fails to attach. A protecting group does not come off cleanly. The growing chain folds back on itself and buries the reactive end where the next amino acid cannot reach it. Each of these events produces a molecule that is nearly the target compound but not quite: a deletion sequence missing one residue, a truncated fragment, an incompletely deprotected variant.
For a short, simple sequence, these side products are relatively few and relatively easy to separate out during purification. For a long sequence, or one with a difficult secondary structure, or one carrying modifications such as cyclisation, acetylation, or a fatty-acid chain, they multiply. The chemistry is genuinely harder, and the purification is genuinely harder, and pretending otherwise would be dishonest.
So we publish two numbers. On the bulk of our range, the standard is 99%+. On the compounds where the chemistry is more demanding, the standard is 98%+. Both are high. Neither is invented. And a researcher who understands synthesis will recognise immediately that a supplier claiming a uniform 99.9% on every peptide they sell, including the most difficult ones, is either extraordinarily lucky or not being careful with their claims.
Independent Third-Party Testing
Every batch that Peptide Works supplies is tested by an independent third-party laboratory.
The word that carries the weight in that sentence is "independent". A supplier testing its own material has a structural conflict of interest, no matter how honest the people involved are. If your own analysis determines whether you can sell a batch you have already paid for, the incentive to interpret a borderline result generously is always present, quietly, in the room.
Removing that incentive is the point. The laboratory that tests our material has no financial stake in whether the batch passes. If it fails, they tell us it failed, and we absorb the cost. That is not an act of virtue on our part. It is just how a quality system has to be constructed if it is going to mean anything.
Batch-by-batch is the other half of the phrase. Testing one batch of a compound and then assuming that every future batch of the same compound will behave identically is not quality control; it is optimism with paperwork. Synthesis runs vary. Reagent lots vary. Purification columns degrade. The only way to know what is in a given vial is to test the batch that vial came from.
What a Certificate of Analysis Actually Tells You
Every batch we supply comes with a Certificate of Analysis, and we would encourage every researcher to actually read it rather than filing it.
A meaningful CoA is a specific document about a specific batch. It should carry a batch or lot number that matches the label on the vial in your hand. It should carry a date. It should name the analytical methods used and show the actual results, not just a pass mark. And it should be traceable back to the laboratory that produced it.
A CoA that is missing these things is decoration. If a certificate could apply equally to any vial the supplier has ever shipped, it is telling you nothing about yours.
The two analytical techniques that do most of the work on a peptide CoA are HPLC and mass spectrometry, and they answer two different questions.
HPLC — How Pure Is It?
High-performance liquid chromatography pushes a dissolved sample through a packed column under pressure. Different molecules in the sample interact with the column material to different degrees, so they travel through it at different speeds and emerge at different times. A detector at the far end records what comes off and when, producing a chromatogram: a trace with a large peak for the target compound and smaller peaks for anything else present. Integrating the area under those peaks gives you a percentage. If the target peak accounts for 99.2% of the total peak area, the material is 99.2% pure by that method. When a Peptide Works certificate states a purity figure, this is where the figure comes from, and the chromatogram itself is part of the record rather than a number quoted in isolation.
Mass Spectrometry — Is It the Right Molecule?
HPLC tells you that the sample is overwhelmingly one thing. It does not, on its own, tell you that the one thing is the compound you ordered. Mass spectrometry answers that. The sample is ionised and the ions are separated according to their mass-to-charge ratio, producing a spectrum whose peaks correspond to molecular masses present in the sample. Because a peptide's sequence determines its molecular weight precisely, the observed mass can be compared against the theoretical mass calculated from the sequence. A match confirms identity. A mismatch, even a small one, is a warning that the molecule is not what the label claims — a missing residue, an unremoved protecting group, an unintended modification.
Purity without identity is meaningless, and identity without purity is not much better. You need both, which is why both appear on the certificates that accompany material from Peptide Works.
Consistency, Stability, and Reproducibility
There is a third quality that matters and gets discussed far less than purity: consistency between batches.
Imagine two batches of the same compound. Both test at 99% purity. On paper, they are equivalent. But suppose the 1% of impurity in the first batch is mostly residual solvent, and the 1% in the second is a deletion sequence missing a single residue near the active site. Those two batches may behave quite differently in a sensitive assay, and a researcher comparing results across them may spend a long time hunting for an explanation in the wrong place.
This is why we care about the whole certificate rather than the headline number, and why we care about the manufacturing process being stable rather than merely being tested. A supplier who buys opportunistically from whichever manufacturer is cheapest this quarter can hit a purity target every time and still hand their customers a reproducibility problem.
Stability matters for the same reason. A peptide is a chain of amino acids held together by bonds that are perfectly stable under the right conditions and not remotely stable under the wrong ones. Lyophilised material stored cold, dry, and in the dark will hold its integrity for a long time. The same material left at room temperature in a humid room, or repeatedly frozen and thawed in solution, will degrade — and the degradation is invisible. The powder still looks like powder. Nothing about the vial announces that its contents are no longer what they were.
We take this seriously on our side of the transaction, and we say so plainly on the customer's side too. Material that we have handled properly can still be ruined in a week by careless storage after delivery. Part of supplying research peptides responsibly is telling people that, rather than letting them find out.
What Happens When a Batch Fails
It happens. Not often, but it happens, and how a supplier behaves in that moment is more revealing than anything on their homepage.
When a batch fails testing at Peptide Works, it is quarantined. It is not sold, not discounted, not repackaged, not blended with a stronger batch to bring the average up. It does not enter the supply chain. We take the loss, we go back to the source, and we work out what went wrong.
That is the whole policy. It is short because it does not need to be complicated.
The Formats We Supply
The Peptide Works catalogue is broad, and it is organised around the formats that research settings actually call for rather than around what is easiest to stock.
Lyophilised Vials
The standard format, and for most laboratory work the most sensible one. Freeze-dried peptide in a sealed vial is stable, storable, and leaves reconstitution entirely under the researcher's control — solvent, concentration, volume, all determined by the protocol rather than by the supplier. If you are working in a controlled laboratory environment, this is usually the format you want, and it is the format most of our range is supplied in.
Blends and Stacks
Pre-combined preparations of multiple peptides in fixed ratios. In a research context these exist to remove a source of variability: when a study design calls for a defined combination, preparing it once, consistently, at the point of manufacture eliminates the batch-to-batch inconsistency that arises from combining components by hand each time. They are not for every application, but where the design calls for them, they remove a set of errors before they can occur.
Capsules
An encapsulated dry format. The practical advantage in a research setting is unit consistency and simplified handling of a defined quantity, without the reconstitution step.
Nasal Sprays
A liquid preparation in a spray delivery format, used in research protocols where that route of administration is the subject of study.
Pre-Mixed Pens
Peptide supplied already in solution in a pen-style device. The trade-off compared with lyophilised material is clear enough: convenience and consistency of measurement on one side, a shorter useful life and stricter storage requirements on the other, because peptides in solution are considerably less stable than peptides in powder form. Where a protocol benefits from a standardised, pre-prepared solution, the format earns its place. Where long-term storage matters more, it does not.
We are not going to list the entire catalogue here, because a page about who we are is the wrong place for it and because the available range changes over time. What we will say is that the compounds we stock are the ones researchers actually ask for, and that a compound only enters the range once we have a source we are prepared to stand behind. Being able to buy something is not, on its own, a reason to sell it.
A necessary word on all of it: every product supplied by Peptide Works is a research material. It exists to be studied in a laboratory. It is not supplied for, and must not be used for, human or animal consumption or administration of any kind. We are unambiguous about this because ambiguity in this area is how people get hurt, and because a supplier who is vague about it is telling you something about their standards more generally.
How We Support the Researchers We Work With
Support is where most supply companies quietly stop trying, which is odd, because it is where customers form nearly all of their opinions.
Our approach is not sophisticated. We employ people who understand the products, we make them reachable, and we let them give real answers.
That means when you ask about the solubility characteristics of a particular compound, you get an answer from someone who understands what you are asking and why. Storage, Handling, and Getting Material to You Intact
A peptide that was 99% pure when it left the facility and 80% intact when it arrived is not a 99% pure peptide. The logistics are part of the product, and we treat them that way.
Cold Chain and Packaging
Lyophilised peptides are more forgiving than most people assume, and less forgiving than some suppliers appear to assume. Freeze-dried material in a sealed vial tolerates short periods at ambient temperature far better than material in solution — but "tolerates" is not "is unaffected by", and heat, humidity, and light all take their toll over time.
We package accordingly: sealed, protected from light, insulated where the compound or the route requires it, and cushioned properly, because a vial that arrives cracked is a total loss regardless of how pure its contents were.
Once It Reaches You
Our responsibility for the material ends when it arrives, but our interest in the researcher's results does not, so here is the plain advice.
Store lyophilised peptides cold — refrigerated for short-term use, frozen for longer-term storage — and keep them dry and dark. Let a vial come to room temperature before you open it, so that atmospheric moisture does not condense onto cold powder. Once a peptide is in solution, its clock is running considerably faster; use it within the window appropriate to the compound and avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles, which are more damaging than a single longer period at a stable temperature. Aliquot rather than repeatedly opening a stock.
None of this is exotic and most researchers know it already. We say it anyway, because the most common cause of a compound underperforming is not a bad batch. It is a good batch that was stored badly for three months.
International Delivery, Honestly Described
Peptide Works ships to researchers in most countries worldwide, and we would rather set accurate expectations about what that involves than pleasant ones.
International shipments cross borders, and borders have customs authorities. Customs authorities inspect things, hold things, request documentation, and occasionally make decisions that are difficult to predict and impossible to appeal quickly. Most shipments move without incident. Some do not. A supplier who promises that customs will never delay an order is promising something that is not within their power to deliver.
What is within our power: dispatching promptly, packaging properly, documenting accurately, and telling you the truth about where your shipment is. We offer shipping protection to cover the situations that go beyond our control, and if something goes wrong we deal with it rather than pointing at the carrier.
Discretion in packaging is standard. That is a matter of basic security in transit, not secrecy.
Import requirements vary widely by jurisdiction, and the responsibility for knowing and meeting the rules that apply to a research institution sits with that institution. We will help where we can. We cannot advise on the law in every country we ship to, and we will not pretend that we can.

If a compound is out of stock, we say so rather than taking the order and hoping. If a question falls outside what we can properly speak to, we say that too. If we get something wrong, we say we got it wrong.
We Do Not Oversell
Peptide Works sells research materials to people who understand them. Marketing language that overstates what a compound is or implies uses that are not appropriate is not just distasteful; it is a signal that the supplier is not serious, and it tends to correlate with everything else about them.
We Stay in Our Lane
We supply and we support. We do not advise on experimental design, we do not interpret anyone's results for them, and we certainly do not give guidance on human use, because there is no such thing as an appropriate human use of a research peptide supplied for laboratory work.
We Are Consistent
The unglamorous virtue, and the only one that compounds over time.
Compliance and Responsible Supply
Peptide Works supplies peptides strictly for laboratory research and development. There is no second category, no exception, and no wink.
We take this position for two reasons. The first is legal and regulatory: research chemicals are supplied under a framework that exists for good reasons, and a supplier who treats that framework as a formality is a supplier who will eventually cause harm, to a customer or to somebody downstream of one.
The second reason is simply that it is right. A research peptide has not been through the trials, the safety evaluation, the dosing studies, or the regulatory review that a therapeutic product must pass before it goes anywhere near a person. It has not been assessed for interactions. Its long-term effects are, in most cases, genuinely unknown — that is frequently the point of studying it. Treating a compound in that state as though it were a product for personal use is not bold and it is not clever. It is an unforced error with a person's health as the stake.
So we are clear about it, and we would rather lose a sale than blur the line. If our position on this costs us a customer, that customer was going to be somebody else's problem eventually, and we would rather it was not a problem we contributed to.
The Standard We Hold Ourselves To
We are not going to end this page by asking you for anything.
What we will do is restate the standard, because it is the only thing here that really matters and because a company should be willing to be measured against its own words.
Every batch that Peptide Works supplies is tested by an independent laboratory before it is sold. The purity standard is 99% or higher, and 98% or higher on the structurally complex compounds where the chemistry is genuinely harder. Batches that do not meet the standard are not sold — not discounted, not blended, not quietly moved.
